LISTEN TO 90.3 FM WCSK RADIO FOR UP-TO-THE-MINUTE SNOW SCHEDULE / CLOSURE ANNOUNCEMENTS

Snow Schedule/Closure
Kingsport City Schools will be in regular session unless an announcement of a closure or delay is made. The school system has the responsibility for deciding to open or close school. If parents believe that road or weather conditions are dangerous, and school has not been dismissed or cancelled for the day, parents may keep their children home. Absences during these circumstances are excused and the students may make up the work missed.

How the decision to close school is made:
  • Beginning at 4 a.m., Superintendent of Schools consults with Highway Department, City Road Crews and School Transportation Services regarding road conditions.
  • A decision to close school typically will be made by 6 a.m. However, road conditions and weather may change rapidly after the decision to remain open is made. If parents believe that road or weather conditions are dangerous, and school has not been dismissed or cancelled for the day, parents may keep their children at home.

Early Dismissals
For some emergencies, like snowstorms, school officials will send students home early. You will receive notification through ParentLink, our parent/school communication system. Notification will also be provided through the school system website at www.k12k.com, the school system radio station WCSK 90.3 FM and other local media outlets. If there has been an early dismissal and your child has not been picked up, your child’s school will attempt to contact you. Please make sure you provide your school’s office with the most up-to-date contact information so that we can easily reach you when necessary.

Bus Routes
In the event of an early dismissal, Kingsport City Schools may use designated Snow Bus Routes to transport students safely. These bus routes will be implemented in the event that roads become treacherous or impassable. An announcement will be made on all media outlets, Parentlink and on www.k12k.com.
