KCS Announces Changes to Spelling Bee Qualifying Process
KINGSPORT – Kingsport City Schools is revising the qualifying process for the 2009-2010 Spelling Bee to align with changes at the regional spelling bee competition.
Kingsport City Schools will no longer hold a system-wide spelling bee. A student will be selected from each elementary and middle school to attend the Southern Appalachia Regional Spelling Bee in Knoxville on February 27, 2010. Ten representatives will be selected from Kingsport City Schools through a written and oral process.
Each individual school will be giving a written qualifying test on December 11 during the school day. A registration form to participate in the written qualifying test has been distributed to students. Students that meet their school’s qualifying score on the written exam will participate in their school’s Oral Spelling Bee given during the week of January 12.
Study guides are available to registered students by clicking here. These study guides will help prepare students for the written qualifying test.
